Console Connect extends partnership with Teraco to enable access to NAPAfrica

18th August 2020November 29th, 2023

Console Connect has recently extended its partnership with Teraco to enable access from Console Connect to Africa’s largest IX provider, NAPAfrica.

Using our Software-Defined Interconnection platform®, Console Connect users can instantly and easily access NAPAfrica, enabling them to peer locally in South Africa with enterprises, network operators, CDNs and cloud services providers. NAPAfrica’s internet exchange points (IXPs) offer direct access to over 430 unique networks (ASNs) servicing over 20 countries in the southern African region.

NAPAfrica IXPs are located in Teraco’s data centres in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. In June of this year, Console Connect became part of the Africa Cloud Exchange (ACX), which is also hosted in Teraco’s data centre facilities across South Africa. This means Console Connect users can connect to major clouds locally in Africa, including AWS Africa and Microsoft Azure.

Our presence in ACX and the ability to remotely peer via NAPAfrica will help enterprises looking for fast and secure connections from Africa to public cloud services based across Europe. The automated Console Connect fabric is underpinned by one of the world’s largest international MPLS networks and a Tier 1 IP transit provider with reach in over 200 countries. By leveraging this network, which includes access to many of the region’s subsea cables, Console Connect can facilitate direct, secure and fast connections between South Africa and all of Europe’s major interconnection hubs.

Founded in 2012, NAPAfrica is the largest active peering community in Africa and has played a critical role in supporting the phenomenal growth of Africa’s internet ecosystem. In March 2020, NAPAfrica reached 1Tbps of peak traffic – a 1884x growth from its first recorded traffic of 532Mbps in 2012.
